       水產養殖生物的疾病非常複雜,包括了致病性的病原物質例如微生物,病毒與寄生蟲,以及非致病性的氣候與環境等因子。以藥物來控制水生生物疾病部但難以達到目標,而且會引發食品安全與環境污染等難以控制的風險。
        在過去四十年當中,本研究是主要的目標在於如何以安全的方式減低水產養殖生物疾病的困擾。我們成功地利用從菇蕈中所萃取的葡聚多醣體來調控不同生物的免疫能力,利用養殖生物自身免疫能力與生理機能的改善成功提高抗病能力。同時藉由有益微生物的應用,建立適合人工養殖環境的生態系統,改善養殖過程中大量有害有機質堆積、優養化與疾病爆發的風險。透過這樣多管齊下的方式有效降低魚蝦等養殖生物大量死亡的風險,建立符合產業需求的生產技術與系統。
